Bike Fun Bike Lab – August 2021
August 7, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeThe Bike Fun Bike Lab is an outdoor pop-up session throughout the summer and fall. Bring your bike and learn more about how to be a thoughtful caregiver for your wonderful freedom machine. Drop-in, casual learning environment. We’ll have cold water to give away as well as stickers about bikes.
There is no charge for the Bike Lab, but donations to Bike Fun – a non-profit organization based in Nashville – are welcomed. See https://venmo.com/Bike-Fun or https://www.patreon.com/bikefun for opportunities to donate.
At these drop-in sessions, we’ll cover common maintenance issues that you may encounter while riding your bike. We’ll also discuss how to care for your bike to keep it running smoothly. Feel free to bring your own bicycle. I’ll have a bike stand and tools.
Common maintenance issues include:
- Cleaning your drivetrain
- Adjusting tension in cables (brakes and shifting)
- Fixing a flat tire
- Patching an inner tube
- General cleaning
- Checking bolts for tightness
- Checking cassette/freewheel and crankset sprockets for wear
Please note – Bike Fun does not provide actual repair services on bicycles but will be able to advise and assist riders in getting their bikes in shape.
Masks are optional during this event. Do note that CDC guidance on mask use outdoors – especially in mixed vax status groups – suggests much lower transmission rates of COVID occurring; specifically in smaller, distanced groups. The recommendation is that non-fully-vaxxed folks still wear face coverings indoors and that all residents of higher transmission rate areas (including Tennessee) wear masks indoors. Cases are up in Davidson County as of the beginning of August 2021, especially among unvaccinated patients. If you’re able to be vaccinated, please do so.
Outdoor events are weather pending – for events requiring registration, participants will be notified about cancellations via text or email. For non-registration events, please contact us or keep an eye on our social media platforms for up-to-date information.
