DESCRIPTION:Ride series ends this month – we’ll have a special multigenerational/family ride in November! \nTake a ride in the park with Friends of Shelby and Bike Fun! Twice a month\, we’ll cruise along the Shelby Bottoms Greenway starting from the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Trailhead for a casual\, no-drop ride\, lasting about an hour. Free\, social bike ride for ages 10+.  \nThis ride supports new and returning bicycle riders for ages 10 and up who want to learn more about bicycle riding in a no-pressure\, encouraging environment. We will learn more about  \n\nthe hows and whys of greenway riding\nbasic bicycle maintenance\nfeatures of Shelby Park and Bottoms\nthe work Friends of Shelby Park does to support the park.\n\n\nRide schedule & details\nMeet at the Nature Center Trailhead – look for the Friends of Shelby flag. No RSVP required (unless you need a bicycle – see below!)  \n\nMeet up starting at 5pm for a bike inspection and hang out. We’ll provide a safety overview and check everyone’s tires. We will roll out at 5:30pm.  \nHas it been a while since you last biked? Want to join but haven’t got your own bike? A limited number of bikes are available for us to bring – drop us a line at least 48 hours in advance so we can bring a bike that fits your needs. Bikes are FIRST COME\, FIRST SERVED. We will cancel rides in case of heavy rain\, lightning\, or extreme heat (heat index of 95 or higher). DESCRIPTION:Updated start time and location for October – 5:00p meet\, 5:30p roll from Cornelia Fort Airpark! \nThis is the FINAL Pedal Forward of the season!\nJoin us for our FTW group bicycle ride. Any time is great to ride\, of course\, but it’s even better when it’s with new bike friends. We will return next April with more scheduled FTW rides! \n\n(What’s FTW? Check out this blog post from Grease Rag {Minneapolis} supporter Emily on FTW rides and their meaning.) \n\n\nThis ride will center returning and new riders who hope to gain confidence and knowledge about riding a bike. Rides will be between 5-8 miles. No rider left behind. We will traverse streets and greenways.\n\nRide schedule & details\nMeet at the park entrance by the water fountain. \n\nWe will have a short (10 minute) maintenance demo at the beginning of the ride covering basic bike maintenance if folks have questions.\n\nMeet at location 5:00p to mingle/chat; maintenance demo will happen by 5:10p; we will roll out of the location by 5:30p.\n\nDon’t want to mingle or watch demo? Just come by 5:30p to roll out. There is a BCycle station nearby if you need to rent a bike!\n\nIn case of predictable inclement weather\, the ride will be cancelled. Class size limited to 5 students. Registration fee is $10-15. Income based scholarships available. \nDo you know a 7 or 8 year old who needs some help getting going on two wheels? Then we have something just for you! \nClass Details\nBike Fun is hosting a 7 & 8 Year Old Learn to Ride event. Get your kid started on their bicycling journey! \nThis course is for 7 and 8 year olds who have never pedaled a bicycle before. It covers the following topics: \n\nGetting onto the bike\nBasic balance\nStarting and stopping\nPedaling\nTurning\n\nCome learn how to ride in a safe and supportive environment. \nFor our learn to ride classes\, we emphasize exposure\, not expertise. Rides will be between 5-8 miles. No rider left behind. Twice a month\, we’ll cruise along the Shelby Bottoms Greenway starting from the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Trailhead for a casual\, no-drop ride\, lasting about an hour. Free\, social bike ride for ages 10+.  \nThis ride supports new and returning bicycle riders for ages 10 and up who want to learn more about bicycle riding in a no-pressure\, encouraging environment. We will learn more about  \n\nthe hows and whys of greenway riding\nbasic bicycle maintenance\nfeatures of Shelby Park and Bottoms\nthe work Friends of Shelby Park does to support the park.\n\n\nRide schedule & details\nMeet at the Nature Center Trailhead – look for the Friends of Shelby flag. No RSVP required (unless you need a bicycle – see below!)  \n\nMeet up starting at 5pm for a bike inspection and hang out. We’ll provide a safety overview and check everyone’s tires. We will roll out at 5:30pm.  \nHas it been a while since you last biked? Want to join but haven’t got your own bike? DESCRIPTION:615Ride & the Freddie O’Connell for Mayor campaign are teaming up to support a group ride from the Bicentennial bells to Howard Office Building for early voting in the mayoral and council runoff election on Saturday\, September 2nd. \nRiders will meet at the Bicentennial Bells on 6th Ave at 10am & will depart for the early voting site by 10:30/10:45a. \n \nBicentennial Bells start location\, ride to Howard Building for early voting \nMeet at Bicentennial 10:00 AM & Rollout 10:30 AM \nRide to Howard Office Building and Early Vote \nFreddie O’Connell and like-minded individuals will lead the way\, promoting the importance of civic participation and eco-friendly transportation. So\, saddle up\, bring your friends\, and let’s roll together to the polls! DESCRIPTION:Been out of the saddle for a while? Let’s get back on!\nThis free workshop for returning adult riders is geared towards bicycle riders who want to boost their confidence to ride in the neighborhood\, to ride with their community\, and to ride on their own. \nRegister here! \nTopics covered will include \n\nPre-ride bike check\nStrong starting and safe stopping\nScanning\, signalling\, and turning\nAssessing conditions when riding\n\nWho should take this class?\nThis class is designed for adult students who know how to ride a bike and want to increase their riding confidence after some time away from riding. Bike Fun has limited bicycles and helmets to use for students who need them. If you need a bicycle or helmet\, we have limited quantities available – just let us know on the registration form! \nWhat should I bring?\nIf you have a bicycle to ride that is in safe working condition\, please bring it! (Not sure if it’s in safe working condition? Bring it to a local bike shop for a once-over before the workshop. We cannot repair bicycles on site.) \nBring a snack and some water. Bathrooms are available on site as needed. \nOther class details\nWe will work in the front parking lot and then apply the skills we learn during a short neighborhood ride. \nClass size is limited to 10 participants. \nThis class is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Pedal the Park with Friends of Shelby - August 28\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Take a ride in the park with Friends of Shelby and Bike Fun! Twice a month\, we’ll cruise along the Shelby Bottoms Greenway starting from the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Trailhead for a casual\, no-drop ride\, lasting about an hour. Free\, social bike ride for ages 10+.  \nThis ride supports new and returning bicycle riders for ages 10 and up who want to learn more about bicycle riding in a no-pressure\, encouraging environment. We will learn more about  \n\nthe hows and whys of greenway riding\nbasic bicycle maintenance\nfeatures of Shelby Park and Bottoms\nthe work Friends of Shelby Park does to support the park.\n\n\nRide schedule & details\nMeet at the Nature Center Trailhead – look for the Friends of Shelby flag. No RSVP required (unless you need a bicycle – see below!)  \n\nMeet up starting at 5pm for a bike inspection and hang out. We’ll provide a safety overview and check everyone’s tires. We will roll out at 5:30pm.  \nHas it been a while since you last biked? Want to join but haven’t got your own bike? A limited number of bikes are available for us to bring – drop us a line at least 48 hours in advance so we can bring a bike that fits your needs. Bikes are FIRST COME\, FIRST SERVED. We will cancel rides in case of heavy rain\, lightning\, or extreme heat (heat index of 95 or higher). If you are a more experienced bike rider\, you are welcome to come and help other riders build their riding confidence and skills!\n\nAdhere to all greenway trail etiquette (ride on right\, signal when passing\, stay under 15MPH\, slow down around walkers). \n\n\nThere is no charge for this ride\, but donations to Bike Fun or Friends of Shelby are gratefully accepted.
