SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED Friends of Shelby / Nashville BCycle e-bike demo
DESCRIPTION:We are RESCHEDULING this event to Tuesday\, May 31st\, due to anticipated weather on the 26th. Thank you! \nE-bikes are a great way to get active. This introductory class will familiarize you with the e-bikes in the Nashville B-Cycle fleet. This session is designed for older riders who want to learn more about pedal assist bicycles. \nExperts from Bike Fun will lead participants with an introduction to bike safety and give you a chance to ride an e-bike in a flat\, vehicle-free\, open area. \nWe will go over the following: \n\nTurning the bike on\nBrief safety check before riding\nShifting gears\nBraking techniques\n\nAdditionally\, we’ll cover finding the BCycle stations\, using the app\, signing up for an account\, how to borrow the bikes\, and hours of operation. \nE-bikes pedal and handle just like a regular bicycle. By and large\, an electric bike will use the same parts too. The electric component is meant to augment human power\, not completely replace it. It makes obstacles like hills and headwind more manageable and allows you to travel further without getting as tired. \nPlease register so we know how many bicycles to have on hand!

SUMMARY:Bike Fun Bike Lab - August 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Fun Bike Lab is an outdoor pop-up session throughout the summer and fall. Bring your bike and learn more about how to be a thoughtful caregiver for your wonderful freedom machine. Drop-in\, casual learning environment. We’ll have cold water to give away as well as stickers about bikes. \nThere is no charge for the Bike Lab\, but donations to Bike Fun – a non-profit organization based in Nashville – are welcomed. See https://venmo.com/Bike-Fun or https://www.patreon.com/bikefun for opportunities to donate. \nAt these drop-in sessions\, we’ll cover common maintenance issues that you may encounter while riding your bike. We’ll also discuss how to care for your bike to keep it running smoothly. Feel free to bring your own bicycle. I’ll have a bike stand and tools. \nCommon maintenance issues include: \n\nCleaning your drivetrain\nAdjusting tension in cables (brakes and shifting)\nFixing a flat tire\nPatching an inner tube\nGeneral cleaning\nChecking bolts for tightness\nChecking cassette/freewheel and crankset sprockets for wear\n\nPlease note – Bike Fun does not provide actual repair services on bicycles but will be able to advise and assist riders in getting their bikes in shape. \nMasks are optional during this event. Do note that CDC guidance on mask use outdoors – especially in mixed vax status groups – suggests much lower transmission rates of COVID occurring; specifically in smaller\, distanced groups. The recommendation is that non-fully-vaxxed folks still wear face coverings indoors and that all residents of higher transmission rate areas (including Tennessee) wear masks indoors. Cases are up in Davidson County as of the beginning of August 2021\, especially among unvaccinated patients. If you’re able to be vaccinated\, please do so.
