DESCRIPTION:The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure and Bike Fun invite you to join us for a community bike ride exploring changes to the bike network around Midtown. This project has now moved into the 60-90% design phase and we need your help to finalize details! \nThe Athena Bikeways project will plan\, design\, and construct multimodal safety and mobility improvements – including high quality\, low stress bikeways – on several streets in Midtown connecting to Centennial Park. \nThe project includes the following streets: \n\n25th Avenue North from Elliston Place to Charlotte Avenue\nPatterson Street from 25th Avenue North to Bar-B-Que Alley\n29th Avenue North from West End Avenue to 31st Avenue North\nAcklen Park Drive from Murphy Road to Long Blvd\nLong Blvd from Acklen Park Drive to 31st Avenue North\nBurch Avenue from 31st Avenue North to 29th Avenue North\n\nYou can see project information here. \nBike Fun can provide up to 10 bikes for riders who need one. RSVPs are helpful but not required if you have your own bicycle. If you need a bicycle\, you must RSVP so we can bring an appropriately sized bicycle for you. \nWe are meeting at the Oasis Bike Workshop parking lot to roll out by 10:15AM. Whether you want to try it out or just check it out from the sidelines\, join us for an excursion to Hamilton Creek. \nFirst time riders can rent gear for free; if you can contribute\, donations are welcomed to defray costs. \nFrom the MCBMX page: First time riders at MCBMX have free use of a rental bike\, rental full face helmet\, a one-day trial membership\, and free practice. Just cover your knees and elbows and get ready to have fun!! \nMeet at the entrance by 6:45PM; balance bike practice is 7-7:30PM and gate practice is 7:30-9PM. \nWe’re thankful to Music City BMX for participating in the Nashville Bicycle Festival in 2023 and 2025!

This initiative inspires new uses for public spaces\, allowing biking\, walking\, dancing\, and more. Neighbors\, businesses\, and organizations can reclaim street space\, creating opportunities for picnics\, art\, and play. The free event transforms streets into park-like settings\, fostering exploration and enjoyment without cars. Originating in Bogotá\, Colombia\, many cities now embrace Open Streets programs\, including Atlanta and Louisville. We will have activities for learning to ride\, an open ride time\, and the SLOWEST BICYCLE RACE – with prizes! \nThe event will be held at the Green Hills Park on Lone Oak Rd and will feature community groups\, food vendors\, activities\, and a movie. \nMeet us at the tennis courts! \nWhat we’ll learn\nFrom 5-6PM\, Bike Fun and friends will host an introduction to riding skills. This activity is designed for ANYONE who hasn’t learned how to pedal a two wheeled bicycle yet. We will have bikes of all sizes for riders to try. If you have a bike and want us to help you get it set up to learn\, bring it with you! \nWe will also have an OPEN SKILLS RIDE running concurrently from 5-6:30PM. \nFrom 6:30-7:00PM challenge your skills in the SLOWEST BICYCLE RACE.
